Fastest Supercomputer is now in the U.S.

For the first time since November 2009, the U.S. now has the supercomputer “Sequoia” at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.

The supercomputer was brought back on the first rank among supercomputers, with 16.3 petaflops. Competitors from Japan, such as Fujitsu’s “K Computer” has 10.5 petaflops, ranking on second place in the top 500.

The “Sequoia” shall also be one of the most energy-efficient systems. The use of supercomputers in the U.S. is primarily for nuclear weapons research.
